To see if an app is using the higher-performance discrete GPU, open Activity Monitor and click the Energy tab. If you don't see the Requires High Perf GPU column, your computer only has one graphics processor.

Macbook Airs only handle integrated graphics card, and there is no slot on the Motherboard to add one. If you want a discrete graphics card, to use with professional software, you need to go towards an iMac, Mac Pro or 15 inch Macbook Pro Retina. Cad cam software for mac. If you do not want to buy a new machine, you could get an older second hand Macbook Pro with a discrete graphics card.
The Macbook air isn't built to use this kind of software.
